A Georgian silver toddy ladle of oval form with a lopped perimeter inset with a Portuguese gold 1749 1/2 escudo of King John V. Has a twisted handle.
The bowl was made from one or a number of recycled silver coins of the period (possibly a Crown or Halfcrown). The edge inscription of these coins can still be seen on the edge of the bowl.
No hallmarks can be seen on the ladle. Either they have been worn away or it was never hallmarked in the first place.
Condition
There is some damage to the handle, also one small dent to the bowl, possibly a reinforcement to the shaft of bowl, and some wear. Otherwise in adequate condition for its age and use,
